Operation Overnight: Making a Life by What We Give

Why Operation Overnight? Why 24 hours?

We don’t stay up 24 hours because it is a cool thing to do, we stay up 24 hours to touch lives. And we touch lives through the websites that we build for these very deserving non-profits in our community. We give by doing what we do best – helping these organizations create a presence on the Web that will enable them to reach more people – people that might need help as well as people that may want to donate their time or money.

It’s that simple.

Operation Overnight 2013 is in the books, but by far the most evident lesson we have learned over the past two years of having this event is that the blessings to our company have far exceed what we believe we are gifting the organizations that are selected. These organizations have in many ways become part of the Geonetric family. They cause us to think beyond the day to day events here at Geonetric and they most definitely humble us to search for more opportunities to serve out community not only as a company, but in our own lives.

I am filled with gratitude for so many things in my life and Operation Overnight has opened my eyes to the numerous organizations in the Cedar Rapids, IA area that are doing amazing things … but have limited resources and visibility. Case in point – who knew that there was a group that installed wheel chair ramps? What they do is truly a valuable service for our community!

So I encourage all of you reading this to look for opportunities to serve – go give! Don’t wait for someone to ask you. There are so many needs right here in our own backyard and we are all equipped with gifts to serve. They might not all look the same, but they are there.

It is my hope that I instill in my daughter what Winston Churchill so eloquently said: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
