Video is one of the most audience-captivating design trends. And in the age of YouTube and streaming videos on computers and tablets, video backgrounds are easily one of the top trends you can take advantage of in your own website design.
What is a video background?
You’ve probably encountered video backgrounds more than you realize. They often appear as streaming, large-format videos playing in a banner or a background.
Blockbuster movies (i.e. Jurassic World) use video backgrounds to give a sneak peak of scenes in the film, but now organizations of all kinds are taking advantage of this storytelling vehicle. In fact, two of Geonetric’s 2015 Operation Overnight recipients – Olivet Neighborhood Mission and Parent Education Consortium — received new websites with video backgrounds.
Do video backgrounds make sense in healthcare?
Absolutely! Two Geonetric clients actually launched new websites with video backgrounds.
Owensboro Health, in Owensboro, Kentucky, recently redesigned their site and decided to take it in a new direction, with an out-of-the-way hamburger menu for the navigation and a large-format video in the background that tells a story about their new hospital, quality healthcare and community involvement.
Meanwhile, Avera’s new program, Avera eCARE, came with its own video, too. The video shares the story of eCARE’s advanced virtual healthcare and telemedicine solutions, with clips of the virtual health specialists hard at work.
Why should your organization consider a video?
A visually appealing video is a great way to present your brand, engage with visitors and most importantly, tell your story. Static images of your organization are a great welcome mat to who you are, too, but a video can provide so much more depth.
From touring a new hospital facility to showcasing your physicians, staff and patients interacting with one another, a video can offer an emotionally-engaging experience that gets lost in images.
